The Great Resignation: How Consultants Can Help

How did 2019’s Pandemic give way to the rise of The Great Resignation?

Prior to 2019 remote working was almost non-existent, companies wanted boots on the ground to tackle issues that would occur daily. But once companies were no longer allowed to meet and congregate at the office this allowed a new light to shine on the at home remote worker, ultimately giving way to the Great Resignation.

Leading up to The Great Resignation....

Working virtually was formerly seen as non-essential to a company quickly became the new standard in day-to-day operations. This also allowed the everyday employee to see his or her potential in the consulting industry of their field while also having the peace of mind for a better work-life balance and healthy well-being outside of work. An individual could see their worth in the work he or she is doing, instead of having the feeling of being underappreciated, overworked and burnout.

Why did everyone start resigning?

It started to be clear to full time employees that most, if not all of their work, could be completely virtually. As the COVID-19 pandemic started to wind down and the country started to resume normal activities, companies started requiring full-time employees that were working remotely to come back to the office. Employees became comfortable working remotely and enjoyed the lack of commute and enhanced work life balance, so when some were given the ultimatum to return or lose their jobs, they opted for the latter.

The effects on the life sciences industry

The effects the Great Resignation has on the life science industry are vastly being regarded as a revolution for the employer. Consultants are being used more now in the life science industries than prior to the pandemic due to the dwindling full-time workforce. By using consultants, companies are gaining a more effective and efficient employee. Instead of having existing employees tasked with more work, consultants can supplement and help with the required work or specialized projects. Companies do not have to worry about hiring full time workers to replace those that have left. Using consultants also allows for a company to bring specialized experts on board that they normally would not have had as full-time employees.
